GUNDOG BREEDS OF SCOTLAND CH SHOW 200904/12/2009 14:15:36 at 14.34Flat-coated Retrievers Having been away from the ring for a while I was really looking forward to judging again. Overall I was disappointed with the younger classes. I was looking for a medium size dog with type & balance. I felt that feet had improved since my last judging & was pleased not to have any bad mouths & high tail carriage. My main criticism however was the number of dirty dogs. It is after all a beauty competition so I did not expect to clean my hands as much. My winners had everything I was looking for & my CC winners were the stars of the day. VD (6,2a) 1 Chipperfield & Higginbotham’s Sh Ch Vbos The Tycoon, lovely outline & balance, correct head with dark eye, strong neck into well laid shoulder, good bone & tight feet, level topline, correct tailset, well muscled quarters, moving with drive. VG4; 2 Eggington’s Benvellyn Winslet Pearl to Pajanbeck, slightly heavier built than 1. Nice head & expression, good front construction & bone. Not so tight in feet as 1. Level topline, strong quarters, moved with purpose; 3 Maciver’s Vdrigle Penny Whistle. MPD (3) 1 Gulbis’ Gayplume Vital Spark, good overall type, pleasing head & expression, level topline, good length of rib, correct bend of stifle, tight feet, moved freely; 2 Laird’s Clemendy Emyr of Daichell, thought this would be my winner but just wouldn’t co-operate. Lovely head & expression, well laid shoulder, correct bone, good feet. Right bend of stifle but needs to muscle up behind. Movement difficult to assess; 3 Hart’s Kingsmarston Black Magic. PD (3) 1 Youen’s Contar Shade Of Dusk with Riverglide, big puppy but overall well balanced, nice head & expression, good neck, correct lay of shoulder, level topline & strong quarters, moved well; 2 C Emyr of D; 3 Hart’s Kingsmarston Black Magic.JD (5,1) 1 Knight, Holmes & Jacobs’ Gemswin Son Of A Preacher Man at Candidacasa, lovely liver, well presented, typical head & expression, nice dark eye, good reach of neck, well laid shoulder, correct bone & feet, very strong quarters giving plenty of drive behind; 2 Taylor’s Corsebreck Abracadabra, nice type but not quite the lay of shoulder of 1.
