We should respect that. The ruling parties intentions are even more clear when you put them in context with other policies they have made.VoiceoftheDarkSide 7 points submitted 21 days agoEven if there is no one who forces these immigrants to “forget” their own culture, these kind of policies sends a signal to them that their way is wrong. That is quite an inference! Do you feel qualified to say this on behalf of other people? The point is that you shouldn move to a country if you don want to be part of the culture. No one is entitled to reap the benefits of living in a safe, developed country without becoming part of what made the country great in the first place (which is its culture).VoiceoftheDarkSide 1 point submitted 21 days agoThe question is, how do you define being a “part of the culture”? If one can live otherwise peacefully and productively in a new country with a different culture, how do you truly measure where the bar should be (in this case, for having “Danishness”)?That is the nightmare of multiculturalism. Culture is about shared practices and beliefs among a group of people when you truncate that down to a basic adherence to the law and the need to earn money to buy things, you get a cultural void where people exist to generate tax dollars. The politicians in Denmark have raised this requirement of how “Danish” newcomers should be, almost to the point that is surpasses what would be expected of many ethnic Danes.Good, those people need it more because they come from parts of the world where the dominant culture goes against so many of the things Denmark secular liberal politics stand for.
What Scorsese does brilliantly is contextualise Dylan and the times. He is seen singing Only a Pawn In Their Game his song about the murdered civil rights activist Medgar Evers at a meeting in Mississippi in 1962; appearing on the platform at the March on Washington in 1963, where Martin Luther King delivered his “I have a dream” speech; and, in the same year, making his first appearance at the Newport Festival singing Blowin’ In the Wind. A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall serves as the soundtrack to footage of the Cuban missile crisis and Kennedy’s assassination..
