The Beginning

I was never allowed a dog as a child despite both parents being brought up around animals . My paternal Grandfather very successfully bred and exhibited cage birds and my maternal Grandfather was a farmer.

Over the years I took home a number of dogs I had "found" wandering but was never allowed to keep them. I walked all the local dogs for my pocket money and had to make do with a variety of small animals including Rabbits ,Guinea Pigs Mice Gerbils Hamsters all of which were bred from. I bred my first litter of Guinea Pigs aged 10 years and went on to show my Netherland Dwarf Rabbits with some success. It was through the small animals that I met Glenis Peach who had a Pet Shop in Belper and bred and showed Deerhounds. It wasn't long before I was spending most of my time up at Kilbourne with the Hounds and various animals that came throught the place. To this day Glenis and Micks home is my second home and sanctuary!!

Through Glenis I was also introduced to Ann Tomlison and walked the world famous Yadasar Borzoi's who lived in Belper also. Later the kennel was bought by Don and Alma of the Aberglyn Borzoi kennel and I had the pleasure of looking after those also

I exhibited my first Deerhound at Manchester Championship Show in 1985 a bitch called Intershare Ilona who Glenis later exported to Germany .I can't say the bug got me as I was so nervous that day and for many years after. Over the next few years I travelled all over the country going to Dog Shows and Coursing Meetings, looking at litters doing Stud work. and gaining many valuable experiences.

In 1986 I had the privelege of staying at the World Famous Anastasia Noble's Ardkinglas Kennel in Cairndow, Argyll ,Scotland . I have many fond memories of the place and in 2006 went back and visited, the hundreds of CC's have gone from around the walls of the stable block but the Deerhound Club sticker remains in the window as a lasting legacy to a very special lady.

It was 1988 that I met my first Flat Coat whilst on Work experience and was smitten straight away with the breeds beauty and intelligence.

I went off from school to work in Peterborough with the Doveport Great Danes for a year before finally working at the Yorkshire Quarantine Kennels where I had the chance to own my own dog had to be a Flat Coat!

On November 1st 1989 TORWOOD BIZZIE BEE "Raine" was duly collected from Denise jury in Chesterfield and taken back to Yorkshire. She was my 18th Birthday present to myself and she was beautiful . Raine joined me on a variety of different jobs before we finally landed back in Belper and went to work with the Switherland Basset pack . For the next couple of years Raine was part of the pack and took the job of chief exerciser and gardener!!

For 10 years Raine was my constant shadow and Iwas lucky enough for her to be able to join me on most of my jobs even being part of the Eukanuba stand in the early days. I lost her aged 10 and a half and I am so grateful to have had her as my foundation bitch .She was a fantastic introduction to the breed, she was beautiful, stubborn willfull incredibly intelligent and lots of fun . She taught me a lot about the breed and I will never have another like her.

She gave me two litters , the first litter in 1992 sired by RIVERSLIGHT JUBA giving me KENTEE INNES. " TORI" was a very different character to Raine a lovely girl with so much innocence . She was a consistant winner at Championship and Open shows and when mated to RIVERSFLIGHT NEATH OF BEANIT she produced WHEELERS BLACK RAIN now in Norway with Thor Jakobsen Hempth's Kennel and for me SH CH HERE COMES THE RAIN and RAINY DAY AND SUNDAYS.

The Rainesgift prefix was registered in 2001

All the dogs above are found in the present day Rainesgift Dogs
